Leaders Love Us

"I thought the presentation of information fantastic and was impressed and appreciative of how closely it all linked in with our recycling and conservation themes for this scouting year.  I will gladly spread my recommendation to other leaders about the Back to Natives program." - Junior Girl Scout Leader

Programs
Brownie "Plants" Try-it Program Request Information
Brownies learn about the importance of plants. During a nature hike, scouts learn how plants provide habitat for animals and give humans food, shelter, clothing, tools, medicine and even oxygen in the air we breathe! Scouts go on a "leaf hunt" and collect fallen leaves (which they later return to the Earth) to do a Girl Scouts
leaf rubbing activity. They perform in a "seed skit," and as a group they "build a tree." Scouts begin an experiment to see which Orange County native plant seed wins a sprout race. The program is 2 hours and costs $7.50/scout.

Volunteer!

Back to Natives needs volunteers to assist with habitat restoration projects (removing non-native plants, and planting native plants).
If you are interested in learning about these volunteer community service opportunities, send us an email! We will inform you about upcoming volunteer opportunities.

NEW! Junior "Gardener" Badge Request Information

Based on the “Gardener” Skill Building Badge from the Junior “Get Moving” Journey!  Scouts visit the Back to Natives Nursery at Santiago Park, then walk to the Nature Center to observe the established native plant garden there.  In our greenhouse the girls learn the difference between an annual and a perennial, and discover how to grow plants using seeds, bulbs and roots. They begin an experiment growing seeds using different amounts of soil, water and sunlight.  Scouts try their hand at designing their own garden, and help us grow the Back to Natives Community Education Garden.  The program is 2 hours and costs $7.50/scout.
